Photo Tips

When photographing for your greeting card, please keep the following suggestions in mind.

Have your camera set to the highest resolution it allows. The larger the photos, the better they will print! Send us the highest resolution of the photos you have. Lower resolution photos will lead to pixelated photos on the printed product.

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of photography. Try to avoid shooting near lamps or indoor lighting, as this will create a color cast on your photos. Natural light is the most natural lighting you can use. Try to get near a window that is letting in light. Try to avoid putting the subject in harsh sunlight, as this will lead to blowouts in colors, harsh shadows and squinting in the eyes. Try to avoid using your camera flash, which can also lead to blowouts and shadows. If you absolutely must use the flash, try not to be too close to your subject.

If you are doing a photo shoot of a newborn or child, try to dress them as comfortably as possible, or have them in their birthday suit! Make sure they are well rested, fed and warm. This will make the shoot easier on the photographer!  Take as many photos as possible, including cute baby feet and hands!

Zoom in close to your subject to avoid distracting backgrounds. Be careful as to not get too close, or your result will be a blurry photo. You will also want to leave enough room to allow us to crop the photos to fit your greeting card. If there is not enough room to crop the photo, we may not be able to fit it onto your card.  Please do not crop your photo before you send it to us. If you would like it cropped a certain way, just let us know and we will be happy to crop it as requested.

If you would like your colored photo changed to black and white, sepia, or have selective coloring, please allow us to do this for you. We have editing that will make your photos stunning!

For backgrounds, try using a solid color blanket, sheet, etc.

Envision what you want to photograph before you set out on your photography shoot. If you want something similar to what is on the greeting card that you chose, try to set up your shoot the same way. If the card you choose calls for a vertical photo, try to shoot vertically, same as horizontal, etc.

Send as many photos as you would like to use! If you are sending multiple photos, and you have a favorite, let us know which photo it is. This will cut down on our revision times if you do not like the photo we chose for you.

If you would like to use photos taken by a professional photographer, including department store photography stores, you must obtain written permission from said photographer. You can send the written permission along with the photos. :
